Hi everyone!!!
Please join me and lets all do what we can to protect our environment and promote sustainability. Below just a little history on furoshiki.
The furoshiki is an environmentally supportive way to wrap and transport items. It’s an essential tool of daily life in Japan, often used instead of a shopping bag, or for storing articles and other domestic uses. According to Yuriko Koike, Minister of the Environment in Japan, the furoshiki is a symbol of Japanese culture to reduce waste. “I’ve created what you might call a “mottainai furoshiki”. The Japanese word mottainai means it’s a shame for something to go to waste without having made use of its potential in full,” she said. The
furoshik
i is versatile and can also be used as a bag, tablecloth, for decorating the wall, as a scarf, or for making a dress. It is also used for wrapping articles such as presents, and the pattern of the cloth is designed so it displays beautifully when wrapped. The fabric most commonly used is 100% organic cotton and the price ranges from $12 to $40 depending on the size of the square-shaped
cloth. Using the japanese folkcraft to create a safe method like the furoshiki can positively impact waste reduction and preserve the environment.
